When I released the titles of unreleased demos, this one came in second for the most wanted. It’s definitely punchy and I thought what better time to release it then going into the new year. If you spent 2023 looking for love then *** it, let’s marry ourselves in 2024 HA!
Alot of my initial writing was giving myself a support, a shoulder to cry on, a motivator. When I got screwed over I’d turn to a feisty lyric, when I was having doubts ‘love has all been done before’ it gave this catharsis and always has, when I sing it in front of people and start to believe it myself.
That being said, I find this song incredibly funny, tongue in cheek and given that I wrote it at 17, even more me. I was experimenting with electric guitar, I was on the biggest country kick of my life fascinated by how they’d make a twist or turn and you’d arrive at the most gut wrenching final line. The other thing I always loved about country was they have a sense of humour ‘stop cheating on me’ a kellie pickler / Morgan Stapleton penned banger(!) finishes with one of my favourite lines ‘stop cheating on me, or I’ll start cheating on you’
Marry myself is an ode to a younger me but a no less fiery one. I hope you find the humour and strength I was trying to give myself through it.
Well, jade said it was full of 'sass' and this track has plenty. These demo tracks have all been good, thanks for sharing. 🙂
Love this. It’s been a great insight hearing these demos, particularly given the time since you wrote them. I particularly like the country feel of the guitar 🎸 on this one, and it’s feistiness reminds me a bit of ‘Going Gone’ ❤️
